CDG stands for Compact Disc + Graphics (also known CD+G).A CDG is a compact disc created with graphics in addition to the standard audio track found on a normal audio CD.
A CDG player is required to play the graphics on such a disc. The CDG player uses what is know as a CDG Decoder to read the special graphics track on the CDG disc.
Other types of karaoke discs are VCD and DVD.
